FAQ

Squad Rivals is a weekly, async player-vs-player prediction game on Chiliz Chain. Build a 5-team squad, predict how those teams perform in real-world matches, and go head-to-head against other managers. Get more predictions right than your rival and you win the challenge.

Fan Tokens of the teams in your squad can be used to boost your performance — but you never wager them against an opponent, and you can never lose your holdings by playing.

01

Getting started

How do I sign up?

Sign in with Apple, Google, email, or by connecting an existing wallet like Socios.com, MetaMask and more. If you use email or social, a secure crypto wallet is created for you automatically behind the scenes — you never have to handle a seed phrase or see the word “wallet” to play.

Do I need crypto to start?

No. You can build a squad and play free challenges without holding anything. You'll only need a small amount of CHZ (Chiliz's native coin) later if you want to buy fan tokens, rent premium slots, or use paid AI features.

What do I have to agree to?

Because real value can move on-chain, you must accept the current Terms of Service and confirm you're 18+ before any money-path action (paid challenge, activation, AI purchase). Some regions may be geo-restricted for compliance.
02

Building your squad

What is a squad?

Five slots, each holding one real team. Each slot asks a different prediction question about how that team will do in the upcoming matchday:
SlotThe question you’re answering
Captain / CoreSafest all-round pick — scores on result + goals + clean sheet + first-goal timing, and it’s doubled
AttackWhich team will score the most goals?
ControlWhich team will win their match outright?
DefenseWhich team will concede the fewest?
WildcardYour choice of a special bet (see below)

What are the Wildcard options?

You pick the bet style for your Wildcard slot:
  • Upset — an underdog wins (bonus scales with how big the rating gap was)
  • Late Hero — your team scores at minute 75+ (+5 per late goal)
  • First Strike — your team scores in the first half (+4 per first-half goal)

What's the Captain?

Your Captain slot (“Core”) is your anchor pick and its score is multiplied (×2). Choosing the right Captain often makes the biggest difference between winning and losing a challenge.

What are Tactics?

A squad-wide style that tweaks how you score. Each rewards a different game plan:
TacticEffect
BalancedNo modifiers — straight scoring
GuerrillaBonus for backing underdogs (scales with rating gap)
Storm+points for first-half goals from your teams
FortressClean sheets worth 50% more
Frost+points for late goals (minute 75+)
ChaosMuch wider score swings — high risk, high reward

Can I change my squad after locking?

No. Once the matchday lock time passes, your squad is frozen (committed on-chain as a cryptographic hash). This keeps things fair — nobody can edit their picks after matches start.
03

Fan Token boost

How big is the Fan Token boost?

+10% per activated slot, capped at +60% total. The realized boost scales with how many tokens you hold (a smooth curve, not a cliff) and is weighted by token type:
  • National-team tokens: 1.5× weight
  • Club tokens for the nation: 1.3× weight
So the per-tier figures are ceilings at full holdings, not guarantees — more tokens gets you closer to the cap. This boost is subject to change with different tournaments.

Which tokens can I use?

Only whitelisted, official Fan Tokens for the teams in the game (national teams and supported clubs). This prevents anyone pointing at junk or scam tokens.

Do I have to hold a token for the exact team in the slot?

Activation bonuses are calibrated per-country / exposure. Holding the relevant team's token is what powers the matching slot — the activation panel in the Squad screen shows your projected bonus live as you add tokens. It's not compulsory to hold a Fan Token to play the game.
04

Buying fan tokens in-app

I don't have the fan token I want — can I buy it in the app?

Yes. On any token in the Squad screen, tap Buy token. An in-game swap window opens, routed through Kayen.Finance (a Chiliz-native exchange), pre-filled with the token you tapped. Pay in CHZ, receive the fan token, then tap Hold to power up your slot.

What does it cost?

A 3% routing fee on the amount you swap goes to the platform (e.g. swap 10 CHZ → 0.30 CHZ fee, 9.70 CHZ swapped). You also pay normal network gas, any price slippage (default tolerance 1%, adjustable), and the swap fee charged by Kayen.Finance (0.3%).

Which tokens can I buy this way?

A curated list of ~80 verified fan tokens is shown by default. Advanced users can paste any token's contract address to swap something not on the list — but that's at your own risk, since those tokens aren't verified by us. Always do your own research before swapping a custom token.

Which network does the swap use?

Kayen lives on Chiliz Mainnet, so your wallet will prompt a one-tap network switch when you confirm the buy. The rest of the game runs on its own chain environment; only the swap touches mainnet.
05

Challenges & matchdays

How does a challenge work?

You pick a rival (from suggested opponents, similar-rank players, or a revenge match), lock your squad, and challenge them for the current matchday. When the real matches finish, both squads are scored and the higher score wins the head-to-head.

What's a matchday?

A weekly cycle:
  1. Lock — squads freeze at the lock time.
  2. Live — real matches play out; scoring data flows in.
  3. Settle — once all matches finish, results are scored and challenges resolved.
  4. Reveal — you get a notification and an animated result breakdown.

How many challenges can I play?

You get free challenge tickets each matchday, plus the option to buy extra tickets. Thanks to the Best-10 rule (below), extra tickets buy you flexibility, not a pay-to-win advantage.

What is the Best-10 rule?

Only your top 10 challenge results each week count toward your ranking. You still earn rewards from every challenge you play — but playing 30 challenges won't let you out-grind someone on the leaderboard; only your 10 best count. This keeps the ladder fair for players with less time.

What if a match is cancelled or data is unavailable?

Settlement is paused rather than resolved on bad data — better to delay than settle wrong. Affected picks follow a void policy so you're not penalized for events outside your control, and there's a short dispute window after settlement.
06

Scoring — how you win

How are points calculated?

Each slot earns points from real match outcomes. Representative base values:
ComponentPoints
Match resultWin +10, Draw +4, Loss 0
Goals scored (Attack)0–1 → +4, 2–3 → +6, 4–5 → +8, 6+ → +10
Clean sheet (Defense)+6 (plus partial credit for conceding ≤1)
First-goal timing+5 if scored inside the first-goal window
CaptainCaptain slot’s total is doubled

Then your Tactic modifiers, activation boost (+10% / slot, capped +60%), and a tiny deterministic “variance” (±2 pts) are applied to produce your final score.

What's the variance?

A small ±2-point wobble that makes every challenge feel alive. It's seeded from the challenge itself, not random — so the same squad + same results always produce the exact same score. Settlement is fully reproducible and auditable.

Can two identical squads score differently?

Only via that seeded per-challenge variance, which is deterministic and verifiable. There's no hidden randomness or house edge.
07

Rewards: Fans & Reward Points

There are two things you earn today. Fans are your permanent reputation (never spent). Reward Points (RP) are the in-game spendable currency.

Fans — how you earn them Live

Fans are awarded automatically when a challenge settles:

ActionFans
Win a challenge+200
Draw a challenge+100
Captain pick correct (your captain’s team wins)+150
Clean sheet on your Defense pick+100
Goal band hit on your Attack pick (must score ≥1 goal)+100

Win / Draw rewards require a real opponent — open challenges with no opponent earn the role bonuses (captain / clean sheet / goal band) only, never a win/draw amount.

Reward Points — how you earn them Live

SourceRP
Win a challenge+50
Draw a challenge+20
Captain pick correct+25

What you spend RP on Live

That's the only RP sink live right now, so RP mostly accumulates until more spends open up.

Coming soon Coming soon

These are built into the design and will light up as the economy rolls out — but they are not paid or charged today, so don't count on them yet:

We deliberately don't show reward numbers the game can't pay yet. The in-app Rewards hub is always the source of truth for what's live.

08

Ranks & tiers

How does ranking work?

There is one global ladder, ranked by your cumulative Fans — and only your best 10 challenge results each matchday add Fans, so volume can't out-grind skill. Your tier is your percentile band on that ladder — where you sit relative to everyone else, not a fixed points floor:
TierBand
PremiumTop 10%
GoldNext 30%
SilverNext 30%
BronzeBottom 30%

Do I get promoted / relegated between tiers?

Tiers move with your rank, automatically and continuously — climb the ladder and your band updates on its own. There are no separate divisions to be promoted into or relegated out of: everyone competes on the same board.

Manager Level vs Tier — what's the difference?

Two separate progressions, don't confuse them:
  • Manager Level — permanent, grows from your lifetime Fans. Never resets.
  • Rank Tier — where you currently rank on the percentile ladder.

Are there season-end rewards?

That's part of the planned rollout — top tiers are designed to earn RP bonuses and on-chain badge NFTs at season end, plus premium packs and vouchers. These aren't paid out yet; the in-app Rewards hub will show them once they go live.
09

AI features (Scout, Coach, Manager)

Optional paid tools to sharpen your play, all priced in CHZ. The core game is fully playable for free — these give information and convenience, not guaranteed wins.

What is AI Scout? (10 CHZ per use)

Reveals a specific opponent's saved squad before you lock, plus an AI counter-strategy showing which single swap most improves your win probability. Best used pre-lock so you can adjust. 30% of the fee (~3 CHZ) goes to the player you scouted — a kickback that rewards opting in to being scouted; the rest is platform revenue.

What is AI Coach? (5 CHZ per matchday)

AI-projected squad recommendations for a matchday — expected points across viable squads using team form and fan-token momentum, with plain-English rationales.

What is the AI Manager subscription? (100 CHZ / month)

A rolling 30-day subscription that unlocks unlimited AI Coach access across all matchdays — no per-matchday fee while active. Renewing starts a fresh 30 days from the payment date.
10

Money, CHZ & fees

What is CHZ used for?

CHZ is Chiliz's native coin. In Squad Rivals it's used for:
UseWhat for
GasNetwork fees for on-chain actions (locking challenges, minting NFTs)
Buying fan tokensSwapping via the in-app Kayen shortcut (3% routing fee)
Slot rentOptional “activate without escrow” path
Paid ticketsExtra challenge tickets beyond your free ones
AI featuresScout (10), Coach (5), Manager (100 / mo)

Can I win CHZ as a prize?

Player prizes are Fans, Reward Points, fan-token vouchers, and NFTs — not CHZ. CHZ is the platform's revenue and gas currency, not a payout. (The one exception is the AI-Scout 30% rev-share, which is a peer-to-peer kickback inside the scouting feature, not a game prize.)

Where do rewards come from if not from my opponent?

From a platform-funded pool and event-based rewards. Your opponent's tokens are never at stake — that's the no-wagering guarantee.
11

Safety, fairness & compliance

How do I know settlements are fair?

The scoring engine is pure and deterministic: the same squad + same real-world results always produce the same score, and every settlement can be replayed and audited on dispute. Results and the reward pool settle on-chain.

Can someone cheat by editing picks after matches start?

No. Your squad is committed as a cryptographic hash at lock time, before any match begins. It can't be altered afterward.

What are the age / region rules?

You must be 18+ and accept the current Terms. Some regions are geo-restricted, and wallet screening is applied for compliance. These checks run before any money-path action.
